Why have therapy?

Therapy can help us to manage our lives and our relationships better; it can lead to more fulfilling relationships and a renewed sense of aliveness. Learning how to manage symptoms such as overthinking, insomnia, high levels of anxiety, depression, headaches, lack of energy, or an enduring sense of helplessness and despair, can lead to a greater sense of autonomy and more energy, and a greater sense of freedom in our lives.

I will help you to better understand why you might be feeling the way you do and what changes to make in order to manage those feelings or symptoms (such as anxiety or feelings of numbness) better. In my experience. the more we understand about ourselves. then the more choices we have about how we live our lives and relate to others.

My approach is based around the belief that our development as children, in particular our early relationships, (with parents, caregivers) help shape us as adults. It is through these early relationships that we form our beliefs and attitudes about ourselves and others. Often, through therapy, we discover these beliefs to be false. Learning to challenge our thoughts can have a positive impact on our feelings and our behaviours.

Therapy can be difficult at times, because it involves change; it is about choosing to do the work in order to make improved changes in your life and your relationships.

Why go for therapy?

There are many reasons to go for therapy; you may be struggling with feelings of low mood or overwhelming anxiety for example, chronic feelings of anger, or you may simply be experiencing a sense of emptiness or dissatisfaction with life in general. You may choose to go for therapy because you are interested in understanding your own development and personal growth.

Therapy can help us to make sense of our thoughts, behaviours and responses in a way that gives us much greater choice to do things differently. Through having therapy you might find that you experience much more freedom (of choice) and therefore a growing sense of autonomy in your life. Therapy can also help you to express yourself, particularly if you find this difficult or challenging.

Who do I work with?

I work with adults only. I have a particular interest in working with trauma and symptoms of trauma, i.e. anxiety and depression.

I also have a keen interest in working with people who are involuntarily childless or childless not by choice (CNBC). This population very often go unseen in society. Grief is disenfranchised, which compounds the pain of this loss and can make grieving extremely difficult. Please do contact me for an appointment if you feel you are struggling with coming to terms with this loss.

How much does it cost?

I charge £60 per 50 minute session.

£60 per EMDR session / £90 for a session and a half (75 minutes).

Cancellations: I ask for full payment if cancellation less than 48 hours before a booked session.
